Support for young adults finding their independence

We support people aged 16 and over who are living with autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries and long term health conditions to build confidence, gain independence and live fulfilling lives. Our support includes trusted services like supported living, day care and short term respite care.

At Retons Care, we work closely with families, local authorities and professionals to create safe and supportive environments where people can feel settled and grow. Whether someone is looking to build life skills, find work, or simply feel more independent day to day, we help make those steps possible.

We offer supported living placements in both Kent and London, including a five bedroom home in Gravesend for young adults, and a three bedroom property in Abbey Wood. These are calm, well-supported spaces where people can feel at home while working towards their own goals.

In our supported living homes, people are encouraged to get involved in everyday routines like cooking, managing money and keeping on top of appointments. We also support people to explore their interests, meet others and get involved in their community.

If you would like to learn more about how supported living could help you or someone close to you, our team is always happy to offer friendly, no pressure advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered with Care

We have experience supporting adults with a wide range of needs and conditions. Our care is always tailored to the individual, with the aim of helping each person live more independently and comfortably in their own home or supported living setting.

We currently support people living with:

  • Spinal cord injury

  • Acquired brain injury

  • Autism

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Distressed or challenging behaviour

  • Down syndrome

  • Epilepsy

  • Huntington’s disease

  • Learning disabilities

  • Mental health needs

  • Motor neurone disease

  • Multiple sclerosis

Every person we support receives a care plan designed around their needs, preferences and goals. We work closely with families, professionals and the individual to make sure the support is right from day one.

Our supported living services are flexible and person centred, designed to help people live safely, confidently and as independently as possible.

We support people with:

Daily living skills
This might include help with cooking, personal care, cleaning, laundry, managing appointments or travel training.

Social connection
We encourage people to get involved in activities, build friendships and feel part of a community, especially if they have experienced isolation in the past.

Specialist care
Where needed, we can provide support with medication, personal care routines and emotional wellbeing. We can also work alongside external professionals such as therapists or nurses where appropriate.

Work and learning
We help people access education, training and volunteering. This includes support with applications, interviews and building confidence.

Support is always shaped around the individual and reviewed regularly to make sure it continues to meet their needs.

Supported living offers a safe and stable home environment for adults who need extra support to live independently. People have their own space and receive care and help that fits their needs and lifestyle.

Support might include things like managing money, cooking, keeping safe, or getting involved in the community. Each person has their own tenancy and a care plan built around what matters to them.

Unlike residential care, supported living gives people more freedom and choice while still offering day to day structure and help from a trained team.

Most people access supported living through their local council. The steps usually look like this:

1. Needs assessment
Contact your local authority’s social care team and request an assessment. This helps identify what kind of support is needed.

2. Care and support plan
If eligible, a plan will be created to outline the kind of help required, who will provide it and how often.

3. Choosing a provider
You may be offered a choice of care providers. You can choose the one that feels like the best fit for your loved one.

4. Funding
A financial assessment may be carried out to see whether the local authority will contribute to the cost of care. Direct payments are also an option.

5. Ongoing review
Support plans are reviewed regularly to make sure the care is still meeting the person’s needs. Reassessments can be requested if needs change.

We also offer privately funded support for those not going through their local authority. If you are unsure where to start, feel free to contact our team for advice.

If someone wants to live more independently but still needs regular support, supported living offers the best of both worlds.

People can stay in their own home or in a shared supported house with staff nearby or on site. They keep control over daily decisions while receiving support that helps them stay safe, well and active.

Supported living is flexible and can help people:

  • Learn life skills

  • Build routines

  • Make friends

  • Access work or education

  • Manage their health and wellbeing

At Retons Care, we offer a friendly and responsive team, safe homes, and care that adapts to each person’s journey.

Supported living is built around independence. People have their own tenancy and more say in their day to day life. Support is provided as needed but does not take over.

In residential care, people live in a staffed setting where care is more structured and constant. Meals, routines and care plans are more fixed.

Both offer valuable support, but supported living is often the right choice for people who are able and ready to live with more independence, while still needing regular help.

Supported living can support a wide range of adults, including those with:

  • Learning disabilities

  • Mental health needs

  • Physical disabilities

  • Autism

  • Complex or changing needs

It can suit people who want to live on their own, or those who prefer shared housing with support on hand. Every decision is based on individual needs, goals and what makes someone feel most at home.

At Retons Care, we offer shared accommodation and help match people with settings that suit their preferences and personalities.
